The “Sand Reckoner” is a work by Archimedes where he challenged the idea that it was impossible to calculate the number of grains of sand that fit into the Universe. His solution was to estimate the size of the Universe and create a way to discuss unimaginably large numbers.
This is our newest shape to join our growing design catalog, our 3x8 “Archimedes” ceramic tile, showing off all if its true handmade beauty with a glossy, translucent Dark Celadon green glaze.
Our handmade Archimedes ceramic tile tessellates in a variety of fabulous geometric patterns to dazzle the eye. An Archimedean tiling consist of regular polygons, where all the edge lengths are similar and the vertices work in tandem, to form a beautiful visual delight across your design surface.
Archimedes is a nominal 3x8 inches, (8) tiles per nominal square foot with a 3/16 inch grout space.
For ordering samples, each tile is $21, plus we have a starting $16 sample base fee. Please get in touch if you need help with samples.
Assorted, unique glaze hues are waiting for you to explore in our Glaze Palette section. We offer many glaze colors in stock ad we offer custom glae services to find the perfect match just for you. Please inquire.
Lead time ranges from 2-32 weeks, depending upon your order size and how busy the studio is at time of your order.

Domestic shipping is $20 per square foot. USPS Priority is what we use but you can request alternate carrier if you'd prefer.

Visit product page →Introducing the Elevation Series, featuring the Ascend and Immerse tile pair. Each tile is 3x8 inches, with a 3/16 inch grout space. Each SQFT includes a set of (6) high fire, stoneware ceramic tiles. You can also order single tiles for samples.
You can install these two tiles together or solo, to create a surface that draws the eye and engages the viewer in any space.

Visit product page →The goddess Asteria assumed the form of a quail & dove into the Aegean Sea, to flee from the unwanted attention of Zeus. Our newest, dreamy pair of handmade tile, Asteri & Kros, made just for your next home decor dream.
The four beauties in this image were the first prototypes I hand-cut, from a 3/4 inch hand-rolled slab of our Michigan made stoneware clay, using my hand-drawn templates.
Each square foot of Asteri & Kros includes (6) tiles, Asteri is nominal 6x6x1/2” and Kris is nominal 4x4x1/2 inch… all hand-pressed & hand-painted stoneware ceramic tiles. We recommend a 3/16” - 1/8” grout space when installing.
For ordering samples, each tile is $18 and we have a Sample Pack base fee of $16. Please ask if you need any help.
I thought they’d be pretty wearing our artisan glossy Iron Celadon and molten Blue Rutile, as the blue breaks iron where it falls over the edge of the tile. Available in any of our in stock glaze hues or we can order any color you desire. We’d love to talk (231) 735-6173 or info@ leanigel.com

Visit product page →Woof-Woof friends! We've created the perfect addition for the wall of your home with our Canine 5x5 Art Tile. Our dog tile was requested by a patron to pair with our Address Tile and handcrafted Cedar Frame for artisan outdoor curb appeal on their front porch. This dog tile is a Pitbull breed, wearing Sandstone Shino and Gold with graffiti style DOG freehand font behind which is also outlined in Gold. The background is a soothing Blue Rutile or green True Celadon a calm, peaceful vibe.
Dogs are intelligent and devoted and have positive affects on their owners mental health and well-being. The Pitbull is one of the breeds that has been highly misrepresented in society. Anyone who has ever had the opportunity to share their lives with this fabulous, loving breed knows how great they can make your life as your pet! We owned a Pitbull, named Coco, a red nose-brindle, for 15 years and we still miss her everyday. She was the sweetest dame to all humans she met, a gem around our kids as babies. We thought she was part cat as she loved to lounge and nap!

Visit product page →We have a winding trail of these beautiful flowers that appear in our front yard every spring, peaking out of the earth when the snow is still on the ground! We were inspired by their variety and show of color to the world after the long winter gives way to spring here in northern Michigan.
The cup-shaped, solitary, salverform flower tapers off into a narrow tube. Their colors vary enormously, although lilac, mauve, yellow, and white are predominant. The grass-like, ensiform leaf shows generally a white central stripe along the leaf axis.
Cultivation and harvesting of Crocus Sativus for saffron was first documented in the Mediterranean, notably on the island of Crete. Frescos showing them are found at the Knossos site on Crete. The first crocus seen in the Netherlands, where crocus species are not native, were from corms brought back in the 1560s from Constantinople.
Our Crocus Art Tile is a nominal 5x5 inches and 1/2 inch thick.We hand paint each tile. The one in images has a pure white Snow Celadon flower outlined in lavender celadon. The leaves are True Celadon (light green) outlined in Dark Green celadon. The background is a placid and ephemeral pale Glacier blue.
