A Penrose tiling is an example of an aperiodic tiling. Here, a tiling is a covering of the plane by non-overlapping polygons or other shapes, and a tiling is aperiodic if it does not contain arbitrarily large periodic regions or patches. However, despite their lack of translational symmetry, Penrose tilings may have both reflection symmetry and fivefold rotational symmetry. Penrose tilings are named after mathematician and physicist Roger Penrose, who investigated them in the 1970s.

Penrose's second tiling (P2) uses quadrilaterals called the "kite" and "dart", which may be combined to make a rhombus. Kite and dart tiles create seven possible vertex figures in a P2 tiling, which are each given nicknames as follows – star, ace, sun, king, jack, queen, and deuce.

The Dart will tile the plane solo, in the Star arrangement, or in combination with the Kite tile. There are (5) tiles included per SQFT. Please install with a 3/16 inch grout space. Each tile is approximately 5x7x1/2 inch in dimension.

I offer a multitude of beautiful glaze options for your design. I can also order glaze hues to match your design, please inquire about my custom color service.
