Specialty Field Tile
Ceramic tile urging you to think outside the box. You can bring modern concepts into your living spaces with contemporary specialty field tiles from Lea Nigel Studios.
The specialty field tile collection is evolving, please inquire and check back frequently for shape additions.
Each tile is created from a hand carved ceramic prototype, hand cast in a plaster mold, and then hand pressed. I bisque fire the tile and then we hand paint the glazes onto each tile, enabling a final glaze firing to pyrometric cone 6, around 2200 degrees Fahrenheit.
Lead times vary, depending upon order size and how busy I am at the time you place your order. Average is 2-38 weeks.
Domestic shipping for all specialty field tile is $25 per square foot. All tile is hand packed and shipped USPS Priority unless other wise requested. Alternate carriers are available. Please contact me for international orders.

A real handmade, artisan delight with much warmth and character. I hand-press each tile from a hand-poured plaster mold. The glaze is hand-painted each tile.

In the early 1970’s, Roger Penrose discovered that a surface can be completely tiled in an asymmetrical, non-repeating manner in five-fold symmetry with two shapes based on phi, the Golden Ratio. This creates a visually stunning tessellation when our Thick and Thin Rhomb are paired together.
Each Thick Rhomb is nominal 5x7x1/2 inch and you will need approximately (5) tile per square foot.
We have an extensive glaze color selection. Please get in touch with our studio today to choose the perfect color for your design plan.

Visit product page →A 33x24 inch Grass River ceramic tile mural, commissioned by fabulous patrons for their cottage kitchen here in northern Michigan. Inspired by the glorious beauty of the Grass River Natural Area in Antrim county, and the majestic local landscape, that makes the place we call home amazing.
This mural has all you need to bring the vibe of the outdoors into your living space. The rocks, trees, mud bank, grass, lilly pads, sky, and clouds all meticulously hand-carved and hand-painted by LNS artisans.
The mural is nominal 33x24 and will fit above your stove, perhaps nestled in among our beautiful 3x6 or 3x8 standard size field tile. The tile are approximately 1/2 thick and have unique handcrafted texture and variation.
There are (16) nominal 3x8 tiles surrounding (8) nominal 7x9 tiles, and (2) nominal 1x3 inch tiles, (26) handmade tiles in all.
There are several varieties of glazes on the mural, each bringing depth and character to this custom art piece. We've included transparent, glossy celadons to highlight the handcrafted aesthetic of the tile. We brought in an opaque, Gold metallic glaze on the rocks and tree bark. Matte shinos on the land and rocks add great texture and inspire you to reach out and feel the beauty.
