Specialty Field Tile
Ceramic tile urging you to think outside the box. You can bring modern concepts into your living spaces with contemporary specialty field tiles from Lea Nigel Studios.
The specialty field tile collection is evolving, please inquire and check back frequently for shape additions.
Each tile is created from a hand carved ceramic prototype, hand cast in a plaster mold, and then hand pressed. I bisque fire the tile and then we hand paint the glazes onto each tile, enabling a final glaze firing to pyrometric cone 6, around 2200 degrees Fahrenheit.
Lead times vary, depending upon order size and how busy I am at the time you place your order. Average is 2-38 weeks.
Domestic shipping for all specialty field tile is $25 per square foot. All tile is hand packed and shipped USPS Priority unless other wise requested. Alternate carriers are available. Please contact me for international orders.

The “Sand Reckoner” is a work by Archimedes where he challenged the idea that it was impossible to calculate the number of grains of sand that fit into the Universe. His solution was to estimate the size of the Universe and create a way to discuss unimaginably large numbers.
This is our newest shape to join our growing design catalog, our 3x8 “Archimedes” ceramic tile, showing off all if its true handmade beauty with a glossy, translucent Dark Celadon green glaze.
Our handmade Archimedes ceramic tile tessellates in a variety of fabulous geometric patterns to dazzle the eye. An Archimedean tiling consist of regular polygons, where all the edge lengths are similar and the vertices work in tandem, to form a beautiful visual delight across your design surface.
Archimedes is a nominal 3x8 inches, (8) tiles per nominal square foot with a 3/16 inch grout space.
For ordering samples, each tile is $21, plus we have a starting $16 sample base fee. Please get in touch if you need help with samples.

Visit product page →The goddess Asteria assumed the form of a quail & dove into the Aegean Sea, to flee from the unwanted attention of Zeus. Our newest, dreamy pair of handmade tile, Asteri & Kros, made just for your next home decor dream.
The four beauties in this image were the first prototypes I hand-cut, from a 3/4 inch hand-rolled slab of our Michigan made stoneware clay, using my hand-drawn templates.
Each square foot of Asteri & Kros includes (6) tiles, Asteri is nominal 6x6x1/2” and Kris is nominal 4x4x1/2 inch… all hand-pressed & hand-painted stoneware ceramic tiles. We recommend a 3/16” - 1/8” grout space when installing.
For ordering samples, each tile is $18 and we have a Sample Pack base fee of $16. Please ask if you need any help.

Here, a tiling is a covering of the plane by non-overlapping polygons or other shapes, and a tiling is aperiodic if it does not contain arbitrarily large periodic regions or patches. However, despite their lack of translational symmetry, Penrose tilings may have both reflection symmetry and fivefold rotational symmetry. Penrose tilings are named after mathematician and physicist Roger Penrose, who investigated them in the 1970s.
Penrose's second tiling (P2) uses quadrilaterals called the "kite" and "dart", which may be combined to make a rhombus. Kite and dart tiles create seven possible vertex figures in a P2 tiling, which are each given nicknames as follows – star, ace, sun, king, jack, queen, and deuce.
The Kite will tile the plane solo, or in combination with the Dart tile. There are (5) tiles included per SQFT. Please install with a 3/16 inch grout space. Each tile is approximately 5x7x1/2 inch in dimension.
